Physically draining, mentally draining, emotionally draining and long shifts away from their loved ones... All realities of what nurses endure in the span of their career and most won't tell you that! It's no wonder they have a well deserved week dedicated to them.
With the COVID 19 pandemic still ongoing, now is more of a time than ever to show our love and respect for them. This can be done in so many ways, no matter what your budget is.
Here is my top 10:
1. Buy them a snack, coffee or lunch.
2. A good deed; offer your time up to them by doing something that they need to be done such as raking their lawn or washing their car.
3. A handwritten note or card.
4. A COVID friendly celebration such as the ever-popular driveby or workplace serenades.
5. Be vocal and demand from your regional and federal governments proper PPE's and other equipment they require to do their job safely. Here's an example of a current Canadian petition http://chng.it/TT7WDN2jKP
6. A gift card for a favourite leisure time activity such as a spa treatment or a round of golf.
7. For employers, think of gifting the nursing department with something thoughtful for their workspace or break room such as a new fancy coffee maker & monogram mugs, new comfortable furniture, a Bluetooth speaker, or new smart television. Make their workplace happier for those 8, 12 or 16-hour shifts that they come to.
8. For employers, gift them a bonus paid day off.
9. Colourful flowers and balloons always bring sunshine to a person.
Last but not least;
10. A verbal expression of appreciation, love and support always goes a long way.
